Why does a dancer need to perform Arangetram ?

In tamil "Arangu" means "stage" and "ettram" means "to ascend".

Hence it is the maiden performance by a dancer, marking the readiness to perform the art after years of training.


1. Teacher's blessingsĀ 

A momentous occasion where the Guru blesses the student formally & acknowledges the readiness to perform independently.

Allows the student transition from being a learner to a performer.


2 Demonstrate skill

It helps demonstrate skill of a dancer. Be it intricate footwork, elaborate gestures or the complex abhinaya.

Introduce the dancer to a larger audience & the community. Thus providing them with opportunities for future performances.
